Circle Housing amongst top 25 most LGBT-friendly employers in the UK

The housing provider has achieved its highest ever position in the renowned Workplace Equality Index, having risen 222 places in the past three years (ranked 244th in 2013) and 10 spots in the last 12 months (ranked 32nd in 2015).

The 12th annual Index, which was published today (19th January), tracks employers’ performance against 10 criteria including employee policy, training, employee network group, all-staff engagement, career development, line managers, monitoring, procurement, community engagement and additional work.

Alex Alexander, from the Diversity and Inclusion Team at Circle Housing said: “We are pleased to have improved our Stonewall Index score again this year.

“Our aim is to embed Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) in everything we do. We have a great Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) network group that helps guide strategy, and encourages staff engagement by organising awareness raising campaigns for key events, including Pride and LGBT history month. We are also working hard to achieve best practice in other areas of the business, including training and talent management.”

Ruth Hunt, Chief Executive, Stonewall said: “Circle Housing and all of those employers that secured a place in the Stonewall Top 100 Employers 2016 list performed fantastically this year. “We have had more submissions than ever before and so making the list is a huge achievement. I’d like to thank all of those organisations for their continued efforts to ensure that their lesbian, gay, bi and trans staff feel comfortable to bring their whole selves to work and are accepted without exception.”

Over 400 employers submitted entries to the Workplace Equality Index, making this year’s the most competitive ranking ever. Stonewall assesses a submission from organisations as well as feedback from the company’s employees. The charity has this year heard from a total of 60,506 staff members, including 11,980 lesbian, gay, bi and trans respondents.
