Clarion Housing Group has entered into partnership with Southwark Council to deliver over 600 new homes through Lot B of their Southwark Regeneration in Partnership Programme (SRRP). This partnership will see Clarion invest £125 million across ten sites located in the south and the centre of the borough.
Clarion’s selection represents a strong endorsement of our successful track record of working in partnership with local authorities and our significant development capacity. This selection, by London’s largest local authority landlord, follows a competitive tender and open market procurement process.
The 600 plus homes will make a significant contribution to Southwark’s drive to provide good quality, well designed homes for its residents. Almost half will be for council rent, with the remainder a combination of homes for affordable shared ownership and private sale. A number of community and commercial units will also be provided.
Clarion’s Director of Major Projects and Partnerships, Kerry O’ Driscoll, commented; “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Southwark to deliver good quality, well designed new homes for local people. These homes also contribute to our own ambitions of delivering 50,000 new homes in the next ten years, and reflect our strong history of working in the borough, which is also home to our head office.”
Cllr Mark Williams, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and New Homes, said; “In Southwark we are tackling the housing crisis head on with our ambitious commitment to building 11,000 new council homes across the borough by 2043, so far we’ve completed 350 new council homes with well over 1,000 more on the way.
“Some of these homes we are delivering and funding ourselves but to meet such an ambitious target we are also looking at different ways we can work with development partners to deliver new homes on pockets of council-owned land. I am pleased to welcome Clarion Housing Group to our programme and look forward to working with them to build new, top quality and genuinely affordable homes for our residents.”
High quality design will be a key focus of all the sites and to achieve this Clarion has appointed Conran and Partners as architects and master planners. Martin Arnold Associates have been appointed as delivery managers.
Work is scheduled to start on the first of the ten sites, Copeland Road car park, Peckham in the late summer with completion of all ten scheduled for mid 2021.
Clarion has 1,200 homes in the borough including its Rotherhithe Estate, which is over one hundred years old. Our recent developments in the borough include partnerships with Barratt Homes to deliver affordable housing at Canada Water, Downtown and 128 Blackfriars Road; Neo Bankside in partnership with Hill Partnerships; Union Street in partnership with Mount Anvil and our own site at Rotherhithe Old Road. We are also currently on site at 128 Blackfriars Road, which will handover in the late summer.
