Housing association and Group Board appointments

Three Clarion Housing Group Board members have been appointed to roles within the housing association boards of Affinity Sutton and Circle 33 which are due to consolidate into a single housing association by the end of 2017.

David Avery has been appointed chair of Affinity Sutton Housing Association and Circle 33. David, replacing Neil Goulden who has stepped down from the role to become group chairman, will oversee the consolidation of the housing associations.

David has over 10 years’ experience serving on housing association boards with more than six years as chair and also serves as a non-executive director on the board of Gen2 Property Ltd, a property services consultancy. Previously, he has held a variety of executive and management roles in the semiconductor capital equipment industry which means he brings with him a wealth of experience in service delivery and operations - key focus areas for the new housing association. He was most recently president of European operations for Novellus Systems Inc., a Fortune 500 company.

Brian Stewart OBE has been appointed to serve as deputy chair of Affinity Sutton Housing Association and Circle 33. Brian is a portfolio non-executive director and consultant, following a career in local and regional government. He was the chief executive of two Scottish local authorities and the East of England Regional Assembly. He has experience as a non-executive director of an NHS Foundation Trust, various charity trustee roles and consultancy.

Sue Killen has been appointed vice chair of Clarion Housing Group Board and chair of the charitable foundation. Sue is the chief executive of St John Ambulance (SJA). Before joining SJA in September 2007 she was a Director General in the Department for Transport. Previous government roles include leading cross cutting work to tackle drug abuse and practical preparations for the single currency. She also worked on the privatisation of a number of major companies.

Clare Miller, group director of governance and compliance at Clarion Housing Group, said: “David, Brian and Sue have been valuable members of the boards and bring with them expertise which will really benefit the organisation. We are delighted with these recent appointments which will form part of a strong and effective governance structure.”
