Clarion’s £1bn regeneration in Merton progresses

Plans for a £1bn regeneration scheme in the London Borough of Merton moved a step forward with the submission of two further detailed planning applications.

Clarion Housing Group, the UK’s largest social landlord, has submitted Reserved Matters applications to Merton Council for the next phases of its regeneration scheme at High Path in South Wimbledon and Ravensbury and Eastfields in Mitcham.

Last year, Clarion was granted outline planning permission to deliver 2,800 new high-quality homes, including 740 social rented homes, and 9,000sqm of commercial and community space across the three neighbourhoods.

Following the council’s decision, Clarion has been working closely with residents and the local community to enhance the scheme designs, including the layouts of the homes and landscaping.

Homes that meet residents’ needs

Work is currently underway to build the first 21 new homes on the disused garages site at Ravensbury and 134 homes on land not currently used for housing at High Path. Every home is earmarked for existing residents.

The decision to regenerate these neighbourhoods was made after taking into account the standard of some existing homes, levels of overcrowding and the findings of an independent residents’ survey. Regeneration means building new homes that meet residents’ needs now and in the future.
