#FixTheHousingCrisis

Clarion supports the launch of the National Housing Federation’s #FixTheHousingCrisis campaign.

This week Clarion is supporting the launch of the National Housing Federation’s (NHF) General Election campaign to #FixTheHousingCrisis.

The campaign aims to build support for the housing association sector by calling on the next government to work with us to fix the housing crisis for good, and by positioning housing associations as key partners no matter who walks into Downing Street on 13 December.

This week (25 November) will be a week of action for the campaign and Clarion will be tweeting from the @Clarion_Group Twitter account and focussing on our call for more funding for Social Rent to be a key priority for the next administration.

Clarion Housing Group Chief Executive, Clare Miller explains why we are backing the campaign.

As Clarion’s chief executive, Clare Miller, told the Housing, Communities and Local Government Select Committee recently, an average two-bedroom property in London costs £400,000 to build.

If it is a social rent property, Clarion will collect roughly £100,000 in rent over a 30-year period, leaving it with a £300,000 shortfall to fill using either grant or subsidy. The sector will be able to build much more of this important tenure with support from the government.
