Clarion CEO Clare Miller appointed chair of Mayfield Market Towns

Clare Miller will chair Mayfield Market Towns, a proposed garden community in Sussex.

Clarion Housing Group’s group chief executive Clare Miller, has been appointed chair of Mayfield Market Towns, a proposed exemplary garden community in Sussex.

Following the appointment (subject to Parliamentary approval) of Peter Freeman to be the new chair of Homes England, the Government’s housing accelerator, Clare Miller will step up to chair Mayfield Market Towns with immediate effect.

The Mayfields community, planned to be a net carbon zero development, is proposed as a sustainable settlement to provide 7,000 new homes to Sussex together with the opportunity for over 7,000 new jobs and the introduction of a construction academy – similar to the one created for the award-winning Kings Cross regeneration.

In addition, the proposed new community will incorporate new schools, leisure centre and play areas, a town hall, health centre and allotments, linked by a network of green space with all the ingredients for a thriving 21st century market town.

“Our collective vision of bringing much-needed homes and jobs to this area of Sussex will positively transform the lifestyles and livelihoods of a new generation of families.”

Clarion has supported the innovative Mayfields project from concept to the present day.

This partnership between Mayfields and Clarion brings Clarion’s considerable development skills and significant experience in operating the UK’s largest housing association with over 360,000 residents already in a Clarion home.

Clare Miller said:

“Peter Freeman has provided outstanding leadership to the proposed Mayfields Market Town. I am very confident that if the proposed development is allocated in the new Horsham Local Plan, our collective vision of bringing much-needed homes and jobs to this area of Sussex will positively transform the lifestyles and livelihoods of a new generation of families who will call Mayfields their home, all in a totally net zero carbon community. "

“I would like to pay tribute to Peter, thank him for his commitment and dedication and look forward to bringing our vision to life and making a positive social and economic impact to Sussex.”
