Work starts on site at 70m Latimer residential scheme at MediaCityUK
Some 280 apartments will be built by 2022.
Latimer, Clarion Housing Group’s development arm, has commenced construction on a new £70m, 280 apartment residential scheme at MediaCityUK in Salford which is set to complete in 2022.
The scheme is being delivered by developer Glenbrook in partnership with MediaCityUK and is located in the heart of the internationally renowned MediaCityUK development.
Contractor Bowmer + Kirkland has been appointed to deliver the 231,000 sq ft Sheppard Robson designed building ranging in height from 14 to 17 storeys. The scheme received detailed planning consent in February this year and will provide 132 one-bedroom, 136 two-bedroom and 12 three-bedroom apartments. Demonstrating its commitment to delivering varied ownership opportunities, alongside 180 apartments for private sale, Latimer will be offering 100 homes for sale on a shared ownership basis.
“We’re also pleased to be offering 100 homes through shared ownership, making this unique development more accessible through significantly lower deposits.”
Richard Cook, group director of development for Latimer
Alongside high-quality apartments, the development, which will be called Broadway Square, will have communal roof gardens for residents to enjoy and the homes will be set in landscaped open spaces. Residents will also benefit from amenities including a residents’ lounge, concierge service and flexible workspace in addition to all that MediaCityUK has to offer in terms of public realm, walking and cycle routes, food and drink, retail, leisure and cultural venues.
Speaking about the development, Richard Cook, group director of development for Latimer, said:
“These new homes are exceptionally located in the very heart of the action at MediaCityUK, an iconic setting that offers unbeatable work and leisure opportunities for its residents."
“We’re also pleased to be offering 100 homes through shared ownership, making this unique development more accessible through significantly lower deposits when purchasing a share of the property. Over time, buyers can increase their share of the property if they choose to until they own it outright."
“In the 19th century Clarion’s founder William Sutton gifted his entire fortune into philanthropic trusts to improve the quality of social housing, and we continue this ethos today by reinvesting our profits into building affordable homes and supporting communities across the UK.”
Ian Sherry, director, Glenbrook, commented:
“After acquiring the site in March this year, the construction contract was fully procured during lockdown. This is reflective of how well the key partners and project team have worked together to get this scheme to site and for us to start our first development with Latimer on such a positive footing.”
Stephen Wild, managing director of MediaCityUK, said:
“We’re delighted to be working in partnership with Latimer and Glenbrook on what will bring a great new residential development to MediaCityUK. It will create a more diverse range of opportunities for owning a home at MediaCityUK and is an important step forward in the next phase of MediaCityUK’s evolution.”
MediaCityUK is a joint venture partnership between Peel L&P and Legal and General Capital.
