Clarion Housing Group partners with FEC to bring affordable housing to Canary Wharf landmark

The deal marks one of the largest commitments by a developer to build affordable housing in London’s Central Business District.

Clarion Housing Group, the UK’s largest social landlord, has reached an agreement with Far East Consortium (FEC), the developer behind Canary Wharf’s new lifestyle offering, to deliver 139 new high-quality affordable homes within the Consort Place development.

The multi-million-pound deal marks one of the largest commitments by a developer to build affordable housing in London’s Central Business District and directly responds to the needs of residents in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

Clarion Housing Group will acquire a selection of one, two, three and four-bedroom apartments within a 35-storey tower known as Alta in Consort Place. These will comprise a mix of social rent, affordable rent and shared ownership homes, with the first phase of completions towards the end of 2023. Alta will be a shining example of affordable living, with many homes offering superb views across the River Thames to the City of London, Canary Wharf and Greenwich.

“With a shared vision for quality product and a commitment to creating communities that prosper, Clarion Housing Group is the ideal partner to widen and diversify Consort Place’s appeal.”

John Connolly, head of UK development at FEC

Consort Place, a landscaped area of public space at the heart of the development, will be available for all residents to enjoy, with a new square surrounded by a health centre, an education facility, and a community hall, alongside bars, cafés, a restaurant, and the historic North Pole pub.

Richard Cook, group director of development at Clarion Housing Group, says:

“The agreement we have reached with FEC is an important milestone, enabling us to deliver much-needed high-quality affordable homes within Tower Hamlets, and continuing to build our relationship with key development partners across London.”

John Connolly, head of UK development at FEC, says:

“With a shared vision for quality product and a commitment to creating communities that prosper, Clarion Housing Group is the ideal partner to widen and diversify Consort Place’s appeal. This partnership is a crucial step in FEC’s wider plans to future-proof this development and build something meaningful for the Canary Wharf community, whilst also supporting the demand for quality housing within Tower Hamlets."

“We are proud to be able to overdeliver on our plans for affordable new homes within Consort Place and with a concept that embraces inclusivity and appeals to all income levels.”
