Clare Miller responds to the Chancellors announced support with the rising cost of living

The Chancellor has today (26 May) announced a package of targeted government support to help with the rising cost of living.

Commenting on the announced measures, Clare Miller, Group Chief Executive at Clarion, said:

“New Clarion residents have an average income of £15,000 per year. On that income, everything you earn is spent on necessities and there is no room to cope with an increase in the cost of goods, services and utilities. For example, we know from our own customer insight survey that nearly one in four of our residents said they struggled to heat their homes as they would like - and this was before the major increase in energy prices."

“The measures the Chancellor has announced today will make a significant difference to the lowest paid households. Having a safe and secure affordable home is one way many of these households can manage economic uncertainty, and we are committed to providing vital affordable housing and services to those who need them most. Last year we built nearly 2,000 new affordable homes for shared ownership and rent, while our charitable foundation – Clarion Futures – continually provides support to help residents manage their finances.”
