  • The new homes are part of a £1.3bn regeneration programme in the London borough of Merton
  • Work set to start in January 2022 and is scheduled to be completed by June 2025.

Clarion Housing Group has selected Henry Construction as its delivery partner for the next two phases of a landmark regeneration scheme in the London borough of Merton.

Work is now set to begin later this month (January 2022) on phases two and three of the Ravensbury estate in Mitcham, part of Clarion’s wider regeneration project being delivered in partnership with Merton Council.

“This marks another major milestone in our wider regeneration of the area, which is creating a sustainable community of good quality and affordable new homes for existing residents.”

Richard Cook, Group Director of Development at Clarion Housing Group

The £1.3bn regeneration programme is in total providing 2,700 quality new homes alongside 9,000sqm of community and commercial space across three Merton neighbourhoods, including Ravensbury.

The £30.5m contract awarded to Henry Construction will deliver 105 houses and apartments at Ravensbury over the next two phases of delivery.

Richard Cook, Group Director of Development at Clarion Housing Group, said:

“We are pleased to partner Henry Construction Projects and begin the next two phases of homes at Ravensbury alongside Merton Council. This marks another major milestone in our wider regeneration of the area, which is creating a sustainable community of good quality and affordable new homes for existing residents.”

Merton Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Regeneration and the Climate Emergency, Cllr Martin Whelton, said:

“It’s great news that work will be starting shortly on the next phases of the rebuilding of Ravensbury estate. This regeneration will see hundreds of new homes re-built for residents including those living in overcrowded accommodation along with providing additional new homes.

"As a council we will be working alongside Clarion and its partners – such as Henry Construction – to deliver this scheme and vital new housing for residents.”

The first phase of 21 homes for social rent at Ravensbury completed in 2020. As well as future phases of affordable new homes, ongoing work at the site will deliver better vehicle and pedestrian access, improved public ream, an increase in the number of trees and open green space.

To help guide the regeneration project and shape its plans, Clarion Housing Group collaborated with existing residents and the local community to design a future Ravensbury that worked for everyone.

The work on phases two and three at Ravensbury, which also includes building a new community centre, is scheduled to complete in June 2025.
