Latimer builds more homes than ever before with 86 per cent for affordable tenures

The development arm of the UK’s largest housing association, Clarion, has built more new homes than ever before – breaking its record set in the previous twelve months.

Latimer built a total of 2,276 new homes during the 2021/22 financial year, with more than eight in ten (86%) delivered as affordable tenures. This marks a 7% increase on the total number it built in 2020/21, when it delivered 2,126.

Four in ten (40%) of all new Latimer homes last year were built for social or affordable rent. Over 200 of these were for social rent. The number of homes built for affordable rent last year remained high, with around 700 delivered for the second year in a row.

The not-for-profit developer also built over 1,000 shared ownership homes last year, once again providing first-time buyers with a foot on the ladder in new developments up and down the country. This included 72 shared ownership homes at a scheme in Portslade, East Sussex, 161 in Dagenham, East London, and 24 in Fakenham, Norfolk.

Completing its programme, Latimer also built 330 new homes to be sold privately. Surplus made on the sale of these homes is reinvested back into its provision of affordable housing and vital services for residents – including those provided by Clarion Futures.

Tackling the housing crisis

Latimer has now delivered yearly increases in total housing delivery since 2018/19 against a chronology of Brexit, inflation, material shortage and a global pandemic.

Since January this year, Latimer has been given the green light on major upcoming schemes in Manchester,  Leeds and Norfolk, where it will deliver a total of 2,247 new homes across the three sites in the coming years.
