Youth unemployment in their own words

  • Affinity Sutton spoke to residents aged 16-24 about their experiences with unemployment.
  • Those aged 18–24 were more likely to be unemployed and looking for work than any other age band.
  • 23% were in full-time employment.

Nearly one million young people aged 16–24 are currently unemployed in the UK.

Behind the statistics, what is it like being young and out of work? We spoke to a number of young Affinity Sutton residents who have experienced life at the sharp end of the current jobs market about their lives and their views about how the situation can be improved for young people across the country.

Please note this research was conducted prior to Affinity Sutton merging with Circle Housing to create Clarion Housing Group.
