Former Manchester United star Nicky Butt hands out Christmas gifts to Clarion residents

On Monday [19 December], one of the founders of Foundation 92, the official charity partner of Salford City Football Club, visited Clarion residents in Gorton to distribute Christmas gifts.

Former Manchester United and England footballer Nicky Butt took time out of his busy schedule to spread some Christmas cheer in Greater Manchester, where Clarion owns and manages hundreds of homes.

Nicky set up Foundation 92 alongside Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Phil Neville and Paul Scholes, who were all part of the Class of ’92: a name given to the group because it was the year that the majority of them moved from the youth team into the Manchester United first team. They went on to become Manchester United’s ‘golden generation’ of players, winning multiple titles including the famous treble in 1999.

The visit was part of a campaign called ‘December to Remember’ delivered by Foundation 92 and supported by partners including the Bupa UK Foundation and Clarion Futures. Volunteers delivered more than 1,700 Christmas presents and 100 Salford City FC match tickets to people living locally.

Foundation 92 has worked with Clarion Futures, the charitable foundation of Clarion Housing Group, since its launch in January 2020, helping young residents improve their lives through sport.

Matt Parsonage, Head of Communities for Clarion Futures, said:

“Working with partners like Foundation 92 enables us to make the biggest possible difference for our communities and it was great to be part of their December to Remember campaign. Having Nicky Butt delivering presents was the icing on the cake, helping to spread Christmas cheer amongst some of our residents in Gorton – something I'm sure they'll never forget.”

Head of Foundation 92, Tom Hutton, said:

“Foundation 92 is proud to work with Clarion Futures and multiple partners across the city to provide youth work, mentoring, employability and family support programmes.

“A campaign such as this really helps Foundation 92 congratulate and support the community on its commitment and dedication to achieve its potential.”

Nicky Butt, co-founder of Foundation 92, said:

“The support of our partners is amazing. We have a lot of great partners and that is so important to us as it massively helps us to get into these areas and to support the community. The work the staff do at Foundation 92 is amazing, but the partners that we have are so vital and it’s something that we’re really proud of.”
