All-social rented Hertsmere housing scheme reaches key construction milestone
An all-social rented housing scheme in Hertsmere has reached a significant construction milestone this summer, ahead of the project’s completion next year.
Construction work on the new 43-home Windsor Close scheme, being built by Bugler Developments on behalf of Clarion Housing Group, is well underway with the final block now reaching roof level.
Clarion and Bugler welcomed the Leader of Hertsmere Council, Cllr Jeremy Newmark, on Wednesday 16 August at a special event to mark the occasion of the building’s ‘topping out’.
Cllr Newmark and senior delegates from Clarion and Bugler helped grout the final stages of the building’s roof, and also laid bricks atop the block as part of the ceremony.
When it completes in autumn 2024, the new scheme will deliver 43 vital social rented homes for local people. A collection of quality new houses and apartments, the development is breathing new life into a former and derelict block of Clarion homes.
Each home at the scheme will have a designated parking space while the sustainable new development boasts a 60% reduction in operational carbon, providing highly energy efficient homes for residents.
Richard Cook, Group Development Director for Clarion Housing Group, said:
“We are very proud to be working with Bugler and council partners to build this all-social rented scheme, which will deliver vital homes which local people can afford. We are passionate about providing homes for those who need them most and are delighted that this project is now fast becoming a reality.”
Councillor Jeremy Newmark, Leader of Hertsmere Council said:
"I'm incredibly pleased to see the swift progress being made with this project which will make an important contribution to meeting our growing need for more affordable housing in Hertsmere."
Andy Bugler, Chief Executive of Bugler Developments, said:
“Topping out at Windsor Close marks a key point in the construction of these new homes for Clarion and the Hertsmere community. It was good to celebrate this alongside Richard Cook and Clarion colleagues, in addition to Council Leader Cllr Newmark. It was great to demonstrate how committed the Bugler project team is to delivering these high quality homes, and we look forward to welcoming guests back next year for the completion ceremony."
Clarion, which already owns and manages around 5,400 homes in Hertsmere, secured planning consent for the new scheme in August 2021.
