Ryan Giggs hands out Christmas gifts to Clarion residents in Salford

This week, former Manchester United and Wales footballer Ryan Giggs took time out of his busy schedule to spread Christmas cheer in Salford, Greater Manchester, where Clarion owns and manages hundreds of homes.

The visit was part of a campaign called ‘December to Remember’ run by local charity Foundation 92 and supported by partners including the Bupa UK Foundation, BM Stores and Clarion Futures, the charitable foundation of Clarion Housing Group.

Volunteers delivered more than 2,000 Christmas gifts and 100 Salford City Football Club tickets to people living in and around the Sutton estate, including many Clarion residents.

Ryan Giggs set up Foundation 92, the official charity of Salford City FC, alongside Nicky Butt, Gary Neville, Phil Neville and Paul Scholes, who were all part of the Class of ’92: a name given to the group because it was the year that the majority of them moved from the youth team into the Manchester United first team. They went on to become Manchester United’s ‘golden generation’ of players, winning multiple titles, including the famous treble in 1999.

Based in the heart of Salford, Foundation 92 is an independent registered charity that focuses on supporting communities to improve their lives through sport, education, and bespoke projects, with an emphasis on positive physical and mental wellbeing. Foundation 92 has worked with Clarion Futures since January 2020, with a focus on supporting young residents.

“It’s so impressive to see so many organisations come together to support the community alongside Foundation 92 this Christmas. We hope these gifts will go some way towards helping families in need during what can be a difficult time for many.”
