Milestone moment for Clarion and Merton on the Regeneration of Eastfields

A significant milestone has been reached in Clarion Housing Group's £1.8 billion Merton Regeneration Project, with construction of the first new homes now underway on the Eastfields estate.

Once complete, Eastfields will provide 800 new homes, of which 245 will be for social rent, along with an array of retail, leisure and community spaces. Phase One will provide 32 homes for current Clarion residents, with 22 for social rent. The 32 households should move into their new homes by 2025.

To celebrate the milestone, representatives from Clarion Housing Group including Clare Miller, Chief Executive and Group Chairman, David Avery were joined at the site by Councillor Ross Garrod, Leader of Merton Council, Councillor Andrew Judge, Cabinet Member for Housing and Sustainable Development and representatives of JJ Rhatigan, the contractor appointed to build the new homes.

Eastfields is part of Clarion Housing Group's £1.8 billion Merton Regeneration Project, which will see the replacement of 1,000 existing homes and the construction of 1,800 new homes across Eastfields, High Path and Ravensbury estates. To date, 102 social housing residents have already moved into new homes in High Path and Ravensbury.

Cllr Ross Garrod, Leader of Merton Council, said:

“Breaking ground at Eastfields is a significant moment for everyone living on the estate – marking a crucial step towards delivering the new, good quality homes this community deserves.”

“The regeneration of Eastfields, High Path, and Ravensbury estates is one of the biggest regeneration schemes in the borough’s history and will play an important role in addressing the national crisis in housing at a local level. Merton Council and Clarion share an ambition – to make sure that everyone is able to live in a safe, warm, and comfortable home – and we look forward to seeing that ambition realised.”

Clare Miller, Chief Executive of Clarion Housing Group, commented:

"Clarion’s commitment to the residents of Eastfields is that we will deliver modern and sustainable social homes, that will make a huge difference to the quality of life for local people."

"The ground-breaking is a crucial step on our journey and I was delighted to be able to welcome Councillor Ross Garrod and our partners at Merton for such an important moment.”
