Construction commences on development of New Homes at historic Twyford Abbey site

A significant event took place in Ealing to mark the start of construction work on 296 new build homes in the grounds of the historic Twyford Abbey site.

This significant project for Latimer, the development arm of Clarion Housing Group, is set to redevelop the iconic site to provide much needed homes for the local community.

With construction officially underway, Latimer expects the completion of the 296 new high-quality, sustainable homes in 2026. Of the new homes in the new low-rise garden community 50% will be affordable housing and have been specifically designed to enhance the heritage of the iconic site, all located in areas surrounded by high tree coverage.

The project will also see the opening of the south lawn, which is equivalent in size to 16 tennis courts, to the public for the first time in over three decades. This will include the planting of 157 new trees, deepening the connection between the heritage of the site and nature.

To celebrate the milestone, representatives from Clarion Housing Group including Richard Cook, Group Director of Development and Clare Miller, Chief Executive were joined at the site by Tom Copley, Deputy Mayor of London for Housing and Residential Development and other representatives of the Greater London Authority.

Councillor Peter Mason, Leader of Ealing Council, said:

“We’re delighted to see work get under way at this iconic site. 50% of the 296 new homes being built there will be available as affordable tenures, including 70 which will be let at rents that local people on moderate incomes can comfortably afford. The site will also include a new park for the whole community to enjoy, which we wrote into the planning conditions for the development.

“We will continue working with our partners all over the borough to deliver the new affordable housing our seven towns so desperately need, and delivering on our ambitious goal of creating 10 new parks and open spaces.”

Richard Cook, Group Development Director at Clarion Housing Group, emphasised the importance of this endeavour, saying:

"We are excited to be revitalising this historical landmark and to be providing much need affordable homes for Ealing."

“The Twyford Abbey redevelopment is a great example of how Latimer wants to work; preserving local history and while building a brighter future for local residents.”
