Clarion welcomes government funding to improve energy efficiency of social homes
Clarion Housing Group welcomes the government’s announcement of over £1 billion in funding through the Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund. This investment will help retrofit social homes across the country, improving energy efficiency, cutting carbon emissions, and reducing fuel costs for residents.
As the UK’s largest housing association, Clarion is committed to delivering warmer, more energy-efficient, and affordable homes. This latest funding builds on our ongoing work to upgrade housing stock and tackle fuel poverty. In previous funding waves, Clarion secured £48.9 million and has worked in partnership with the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero to improve thousands of hard-to-heat homes, contributing to our wider decarbonisation efforts.
Clarion will play a key role in two major funding streams:
- Strategic Fund: Supporting upgrades to over 1,600 homes in London, providing insulation, energy-efficient heating solutions, and solar panels. We are part of a wider consortium working with 23 local authorities and housing providers.
- Challenge Fund: Upgrading over 800 homes outside London, with Clarion directly responsible for more than 700. These improvements will significantly enhance energy efficiency and affordability for residents.
Rob Lane, Chief Property Officer at Clarion Housing Group, said:
"We welcome the government’s investment through the Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund Wave 3, which is a crucial step in tackling fuel poverty and improving the energy efficiency of homes across the UK. At Clarion, we understand that rising energy costs remain a major concern for many of our residents, and we are committed to making a real difference by providing warmer, more sustainable homes."
"This funding allows us to build on the progress we’ve already made in delivering large-scale retrofitting projects, upgrading our homes with energy-efficient heating, insulation, and solar panels. By working closely with the government and our local partners, we can ensure these vital improvements have a lasting impact by helping residents cut their bills, live more comfortably, and contribute to the UK’s net-zero targets."
This initiative marks a significant step toward meeting the UK’s net-zero ambitions while ensuring residents benefit from lower energy bills and improved home comfort. Clarion will continue to lead on sustainable housing solutions and advocate for further investment in energy efficiency.
