Clarion doubles Making a Difference Fund pot to £100k
Many art groups have been supported by Making a Difference funding.
Clarion Futures, the charitable foundation of Clarion Housing Group, has announced that it has awarded almost £100,000 in grant funding to partners nationwide through its Making A Difference Fund.
Launched earlier this year as part of celebrations to mark the housing association’s 125th anniversary, the Fund offered grants of up to £5,000 to organisations delivering projects that will draw people together, sharing hopes, skills and passions for the places Clarion residents call home.
Due to the large number of high-quality applications received, Clarion Futures doubled the funding pot from £50,000 to £100,000, helping to make an even bigger difference.
21 organisations have received grants through the Making a Difference Fund including:
- Sutton Trust Community Group in Stoke-on-Trent - who will be uniting local residents through storytelling, memory-sharing and heritage walks. A launch event, weekly cafes, historian talks and a student documentary will capture local history, build community connection and create a living archive, preserving the estate's past while strengthening its future.
- South Mitcham Community Association in Merton - who will be running an arts-based project, inviting local people to come to the centre and co-produce a design. The design will be used to create the SMCA heART of community mural, which will be permanently installed within the centre.
- Friday Bridge Primary School in Fenland - who will run a community art and story trail, featuring children’s work and contributions from local residents, celebrating life in the local neighbourhood. The project builds community pride, strengthens school-home links, and culminates in a launch event and printed storybook showcasing shared creativity and connection across generations.
Four Clarion residents were part of the judging panel that selected the projects to receive funding, ensuring community voices were at the heart of the decision-making process.

Phil Miles, Director of Clarion Futures, said:
“When we launched the Making a Difference Fund we were inundated with all sorts of fantastic ideas for projects to mark our 125th anniversary and leave a lasting legacy in our communities, so much so that we doubled the funding pot to £100,000.
“We’re excited to reveal the projects and partners that we’re going to be supporting through the grant programme, and I look forward to seeing everything from murals and community-designed quilts to heritage and history projects taking shape over the coming months, celebrating our neighbourhoods and residents.”
Douglas, a Clarion resident who was part of the judging panel, said:
“It’s been great to be part of the panel for the Making a Difference Fund and it was a very successful day. Together we’ve looked into all the funding projects, and we came up with a very good consensus of the ones that appear to be worthy of support, so it’ll be interesting to see what comes of it over the next few months.”
The Making a Difference Fund forms part of celebrations to mark Clarion Housing Group’s 125th anniversary, with the organisation drawing on its heritage dating back to 1900 when entrepreneur William Sutton left his fortune to build some of the first social housing in London. 125 years later, Clarion remains committed to honouring that legacy through its social purpose, with programmes like this playing a major role in its work to support its residents and communities.
