Innovative initiative wins national housing award for tackling homelessness in Leeds

The Kirkstall Road Project provides safe, high-quality temporary accommodation and 24/7 support for people experiencing homelessness.

Latimer, the development arm of Clarion Housing Group, and St George’s Crypt have won the Best Community Initiative category at the Housebuilder Awards 2025 for their innovative work on The Kirkstall Road Project in Leeds.

Located on the site of Latimer’s Dyecoats development, the Kirkstall Road Project provides safe, high-quality temporary accommodation and 24/7 support for people experiencing homelessness. The initiative helps residents rebuild their lives with dignity, confidence and hope, providing a bridge towards independent living.

Since opening in 2022, the project has supported more than 30 residents to move on into permanent housing, training and employment.

Delivered in partnership with St George’s Crypt and supported by Leeds City Council, the Kirkstall Road Project represents a collaborative model for tackling homelessness that goes beyond housing to provide wraparound support, skills training and wellbeing services.

The Kirkstall Road Project shows what can be achieved when developers, charities and local partners work together to change lives. This award is a testament to the compassion and commitment of everyone involved, especially the St George’s Crypt team whose work is truly transformative.

Richard Cook, Chief Development Officer

The project forms part of Latimer’s wider investment in creating lasting social impact through housing and community-led regeneration.

The whole team is extremely proud to see this project recognised for the real difference it is making in people’s lives. Congratulations to everyone involved, and to the dedicated team at St George’s Crypt for their ongoing work supporting people across Leeds.
