Clarion Housing Group and construction partner Taylor Wimpey have celebrated a key milestone at East Riverside in Poplar, where 116 new affordable homes are being delivered as part of Taylor Wimpey’s wider Rivermark development.

The topping out ceremony, held on Tuesday 14 July, brought together representatives from Clarion, Taylor Wimpey and project partners Equals Consulting to recognise progress on the scheme and the strong partnership behind its delivery.

East Riverside forms part of the wider Rivermark development, which will deliver around 550 homes overall. Clarion’s 116 affordable homes will be provided across four buildings, with the homes split equally between London Affordable Rent and Tower Hamlets Living Rent tenures.

The milestone is an important step forward in delivering much-needed affordable housing in Tower Hamlets and supporting the continued regeneration of Poplar. Completion of the first new homes is targeted for late 2026.

Nick Wood, Regional Managing Director at Clarion Housing Group, said:

“Reaching this stage is an important milestone for East Riverside and for the delivery of new affordable homes in Poplar. These homes will provide local people with high-quality, affordable places to live while contributing to the wider regeneration of the area.

“We are pleased to be working with Tower Hamlets and our project partner, Taylor Wimpey, to bring this scheme forward, and we look forward to seeing the homes completed and welcoming residents in the future.”

Tim Betts, Acting Managing Director at Taylor Wimpey London, said:

“Topping out is an important milestone for East Riverside and the progress being made in delivering these new homes. We’re proud to be working alongside Clarion to deliver a mix of homes that will help create a vibrant, inclusive neighbourhood as part of the wider Rivermark development. We’re excited to welcome the first residents later this year and see this new community take shape.”

The homes are being delivered through a Section 106 agreement as part of the wider development. Once complete, they will provide a mix of affordable rented homes, helping to meet local housing need in one of London’s most in-demand boroughs.

Clarion, the UK’s largest housing association, is one of the country’s leading developers of affordable housing, with a focus on providing high-quality, sustainable homes and supporting long-term communities.
