Clare Miller to retire as Group Chief Executive of Clarion Housing Group

During Clare’s tenure as Chief Executive, Clarion has strengthened its position as one of the country’s largest providers of social housing and a major long-term investor in homes and communities.

Clarion Housing Group has announced that Clare Miller has informed the Board of her intention to retire in summer 2027.

Clare joined Affinity Sutton in 2010 as Group Director of Governance and Compliance. She continued in that role following the creation of Clarion Housing Group in 2016 and was appointed Group Chief Executive in September 2018.

The Board will now begin a formal process to appoint Clare’s successor. Clare will remain fully engaged as Group Chief Executive during that process and will continue with the Group for an agreed period to support an orderly transition and handover ahead of her retirement next summer.

During Clare’s tenure as Chief Executive, Clarion has strengthened its position as one of the country’s largest providers of social housing and a major long-term investor in homes and communities. She has led the organisation through a period of profound change for the housing sector, including the pandemic, growing investment in building safety and existing homes, and considerable economic and regulatory change.

Under her leadership, Clarion has maintained its financial strength while continuing to invest at scale in residents’ homes, new affordable housing and communities, delivering more than 14,000 new homes. The Group has also generated more than £1 billion in social value since 2016, published the sector’s first Climate Transition Plan and, in its 125th anniversary year, launched the Five New Giants of Opportunity, setting out a wider vision for the role housing can play in strengthening communities and improving lives.

Jock Lennox, Group Chair of Clarion Housing Group, said:

“Clare has made an exceptional contribution to Clarion and to social housing over many years. She has led the Group with integrity, determination and a deep commitment to our social purpose, always focused on doing the right thing for residents and ensuring Clarion remains strong for the long term.

“On behalf of the Board, I want to thank Clare for everything she has given to Clarion. She will leave the organisation with strong foundations, a clear sense of purpose and a strong and committed executive team who will continue to deliver for residents, partners and investors.

“Our focus now is on finding the right person to continue the delivery of our strategy. Clare will remain fully engaged as Group Chief Executive while that process takes place and will work closely with the Board and her successor to ensure a smooth and orderly transition.”

Clare Miller, Group Chief Executive of Clarion Housing Group, said:

“It has been an enormous privilege to lead Clarion and to work alongside so many talented and committed colleagues. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together and of the difference Clarion makes every day for residents and communities across the country.

“Clarion has a unique responsibility because of its scale, but also a unique opportunity to show what housing can do for people and communities. We have built a strong and resilient organisation, remained true to our social purpose and continued to invest for the long term, even through some exceptionally challenging years.

“This is the right time to begin planning for the next chapter. There is still much I want us to accomplish before I retire next summer, and I remain fully committed to leading the organisation and supporting my successor through the transition. I know that Clarion’s purpose, its people and its ambition will continue to drive the organisation forward for many years to come.”

Clarion’s strategy and priorities remain unchanged. The Board will provide a further update when Clare’s successor has been appointed.
