A consultation concluded that demolition and redevelopment was the only viable solution for the future of the Sherwood Close Estate, built in the 1970s and in poor structural condition.

Redevelopment work began on site in August 2016, and by 2019 some 71 new homes for social rent had been built.

The new estate, which is scheduled to be completed by 2023, will contain around 300 high-quality new homes made up of a mixture of flats, maisonettes and townhouses from one to four-bedrooms in size.
